Saturday!

Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995; 87 Brain Eaters) : This great coming of age independent black comedy was written, directed and produced by Todd Solondz. This film had a budget of around $800,000 and grossed around $4,700,000. Most people were surprised at how well it really did. It stars Heather Matarazzo, Matthew Faber, Daria Kalinina, Brendan Sexton, Jr., Eric Mabius, and so on. This film has a really fun but awkward feel, the storyline/plot is amazing. This movie seriously reminds you how awful middle school can be. This is one great film if your in the mood for it that is. In 2004 Todd Solondz made a sequel called Palindromes, it begins with the words "In Loving Memory of Dawn Wiener," and opens with her funeral, revealing that Dawn went to college, became pregnant, gained a lot of weight and committed suicide.
Seventh-grade is no fun, especially for Twelve-year-old Dawn Weiner who is awkward, both physically and socially. Everyone at school calls her 'Dog-Face' or 'Wiener-Dog' and is horribly mean to her. Her older brother is 'King of the Nerds'  and her parents genius, her younger sister is a cute ballerina who everyone loves and gets her in trouble with her parents all the time because she's the favorite. Dawn is either ignored or treated as an annoyance by her parents. Like most children at that age, her life seems to be falling apart when she faces rejection from the older guy in her brother's band who she has a major crush on, her parents want to tear down her 'Special People's Club' clubhouse for their party, she is harassed by a boy in school who wants to "rape' her and her sister is abducted and it's kinda her fault. It's just one awkward moment after another.
