Saturday!

It is Saturday already, this week flew by. Actually more like this year is flying by but yeah. I have been kinda trying to stick with themes every month but right now I am not in the mood for a theme. I'm kinda on a Pee-wee kick and since it is one of my all time favorite movie tonight's "Saturday Graverite" is...

Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985; 90 Brain Eaters) : This amazing comedy film was written by Paul Reubens, Phil Hartman and Michael Varhol and directed by the great Tim Burton (his first full-length feature)After the success of The Pee-wee Herman Show, Reubens began writing the script to Pee-wee's Big Adventure when he was hired by Warner Bros. Pictures. This film stars Paul Rubens as Pee-wee of course, Elizabeth Daily as Dottie, Mark Holton as Francis Buxton, Judd Omen as Mickey Morelli, Diane Salinger as Simone and so on. There were also many great cameos including a couple people from The Pee-wee Herman Show and Pee-wee's Playhouse. Like most Tim Burton movies, Danny Elfman (this is his first film score) did the music score and during one scene you get the great "TEQUILA" song performed by The Champs. The film had a budget of 7 million and grossed over 40 million, over 70 thousand in the first weekend. The movie ended up with mixed reviews for the most part but ended up as a cult film and a favorite to many. This film spawned a sequel, Big Top Pee-wee which isn't as good but still pretty great.
This film is about Pee-wee Herman who loves his bike more than anything else in the world. His rich spoiled neighbor Francis Buxton wants nothing more then Pee-wee's bike and offers to buy it but Pee-wee refuses. While out picking up a few things he goes into the bike shop to see Dottie and pick up his new horn, someone steals his bike. Pee-wee visits a psychic named Madame Ruby who lies and tells him that the bike is hidden in the basement of the Alamo. So he sets off on a crazy obsessive cross-country journey determined to recover his bike. Along the way he meets many great characters and has one movie worthy adventure.
