Pecker (1998 ; 86 Brain Eaters) : This is a comedy-drama film written and directed by John Waters. This film stars Edward Furlong, Christina Ricci, Brendan Sexton III, Lauren Hulsey, Mark Joy, Mary Kay Place, Jean Schertler, Martha Plimpton, Lili Taylor, Mink Stole, Patricia Hearst, Mary Vivian Pearce, and so on, also you get a uncredited cameo from John Waters as the pervert on the phone at the laundromat. The budget for this film was 6 million and grossed a little over 2 million, it was of coursed film in Baltimore, Maryland. At one point you see a claw machine in the bar it contains among other things, a box of Ex-Lax, a box of Gas-X, a liquor bottle filled with a dark brown liquid, and a cell phone. This movie didn't do as well as thought it would but I think it's pretty amazing.
A young guy named Pecker, who works at a sandwich shop and takes pictures of his dysfunctional family, the crazy residents of Baltimore, places and even things around the city. One day at his own art show at the shop, New York art dealer Rorey Wheeler buys one of Pecker's "modern pictures". She invites girlfriend Shelley (a laundromat worker), Matt (the common thief/best friend), parents Jimmy and Joyce (a struggling bartender/bar owner and bargain clothing store saleswoman), sister Tina (hostess/bartender at a gay strip joint), sister Chrissy (a sugar-crazed little girl), and the family's religious grandmother "Memama" (a "pit beef" sandwich chef) to an art gallery in New York City where she wants to show Pecker's work. It is then that Pecker becomes an overnight art sensation nationwide. Unfortunately, serious problems arise back home. Many of the residents become appalled and embarrassed by his pictures, costing him a whole lot more than his friends. It's up to Pecker to make things right with his Shelley and make the people see the good from bad in photography.
