Saturday Graverite!
Almost Famous (2000 ; 122 Brain Eaters) : This film was written and directed by Cameron Crowe, telling the fictional story of a teenage journalist writing for Rolling Stone magazine while covering the fictitious rock band Stillwater. The film is semi-autobiographical, as Crowe himself was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone. The film is based on Crowe's experiences touring with rock bands Poco, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It has an amazing cast starring Patrick Fugit, Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson, Anna Paquin, Zooey Deschanel, Jason Lee, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Fairuza Balk, Frances McDormand, Noah Taylor, and so on. The budget for this film was 60 million it grossed under that at about 48 million but took home a few awards. The film production took 92 days. In a Rolling Stones article Crowe talks about how he lost his virginity, fell in love, and met his heroes, experiences that are shared by William, the main character in the film.
William Miller is a 15 year old kid, hired by Rolling Stone magazine to tour with, and write about Stillwater, an up and coming rock band. This wonderfully witty coming of age film follows William as he falls face first to confront life, love, and lingo.
On a side note the soundtrack it pretty great and it also awarded the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
