Saturday Graverites!
The Fly (1986 ; 95 Brain Eater) : This is your 1980's science fiction/horror film written and directed by David Cronenberg. It is a remake of the 1958 Classic The Fly with a bigger budget and a much different plot but the same general idea (man fly hybird). The budget was $15,000,000 and grossed close to $61,000,000. This film stars Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, and John Getz. The amazing soundtrack was composed by Howard Shore who later did the music for the play. There were several sequences and an alternate ending filmed but cut from the final release. The makeup for the fly took roughly 5 hours, they didn't want it to be a giant fly but rather a literal fusion of a man and an insect with characteristic of both. This is your perfect love story with some horror/sci-fi thrown in. Later a sequel was made which wasn't as good but has a good storyline/plot.
Seth Brundle, a brilliant but eccentric scientist attempts to woo investigative journalist Veronica Quaife by offering her a scoop on his latest research in the field of matter transportation, which against all the expectations of the scientific establishment have proved successful. Up to a point. Brundle thinks he has ironed out the last problem when he successfully transports a living creature, but when he attempts to teleport himself a fly enters one of the transmission booths, and Brundle finds he is a changed man. This Science-Gone-Mad film is the source of the quotable quote "Be afraid. Be very afraid."
