Saturday Graverites!
Tonight is a Saturday Graverites double feature since I missed last weeks. First movie of the night is The Howling III. This is one great movie with lots of cheese. The first two Howlings are more on the serious side and this one just has nothing to do with either. I have to say this is my favorite out of all the Howling movies. This horror comedy came out in 1987 and was written and directed by Philippe Mora. This is an "Ozploitation" movie. It has a really good cast and a pretty great story line for what it is. The beautiful young member of a wild Australian werewolf clan escapes her tribe to become an actress in a movie about werewolves. Meanwhile, a U.S. government scientist convinces the president of the U.S. to let him conduct research into werewolves in Australia. A group of werewolves are trying to track down their former member, who's struggling with her condition and love of a human. The sociologist who studies these creatures falls in love with the run away female and a baby is born. It just has a lot of gore and cheese. I have read tons of review that hate on this movie and I want to punch them all. Seriously don't go into this one thinking it is serious, it's not and it isn't a bad movie either. It's just a silly over the top horror comedy about marsupial werewolves.
The 2nd part of Saturday Graverites is Eight Legged Freaks, yeah I know spiders are not insects but I think they still count as part of June Bugs. Another horror comedy that's pretty silly but I find it enjoyable. This movie came out in 2002 and was written en directed by Ellory Elkayem. I love the casting for this one, the story line is pretty basic but still pretty good. The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. It's then up to mining engineer Chris McCormack and Sheriff Sam Parker to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople, including the Sheriff's young son, Mike, her daughter, Ashley, and paranoid radio announcer Harlan, into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts. This is a Saturday cheese night. Enjoy and don't forget the popcorn and soda!!!
